The X-M5 SmallRig Setup

Finally got the SmallRig cage dialed in on the X-M5. It adds just enough weight to balance out heavier glass without losing that compact form factor. I paired it with a minimalist rope strap—looks industrial, fits right in with some of my archival streetwear pieces. Taking this rig around Lat Phrao later today to test some new film simulation tweaks.

Lens Talk: Viltrox 40mm vs. The Kit

Honestly, the Viltrox 40mm f/2.5 is basically glued to my camera at this point. The compression is beautiful for street portraits, and it renders colors perfectly for custom recipes. That said, I won't disrespect the kit lens. The standard zoom is incredibly nice when you just need a wider FOV for architecture or tight alleyways. If you're on a budget, master the kit lens first.

Pushing Classic Negative at Night

Most people abandon Classic Neg when the sun goes down, but if you push the shadows to +1.5 and cool down the white balance (R: -2, B: +3), it handles neon street lights incredibly well. It gives this gritty, cinematic look that feels very raw. I’ve been using it exclusively for evening cafe shoots.

Sensor Heat & Summer Street Photography

Shooting in the September heat means the X-M5 sensor gets warm pretty fast, especially if you're leaving it powered on between shots to catch fleeting moments. I've found that turning on the performance boost actually helps somehow, maybe just by processing images faster and getting back to idle quicker. Just a tip for anyone shooting in similar humidity!

Re-thinking Black & White: Acros

I used to rely heavily on standard monochrome, but switching my recipe base to Acros with a +G filter has completely changed how I look at contrast. It preserves skin tones beautifully while crushing the unnecessary mid-tones in the background. If you haven't built an Acros recipe yet, you are missing out on half the Fuji experience.
